Created by the talented Michael Lee Ford, who is currently incarcerated in Telford Prison, TX. His story and art are touched upon in Mike Drake's 'The Isolated Art of Michael Lee Ford', but here's a chance to own your own, original MLF outsider artwork.
Because I have a life that excels in being casually surreal, I'm in direct contact with Mr. Ford, who is readily accepting commissions.
Today, this work arrived in my doorstep. Apparently, MLF sent this to a gallery, who then for some reason forwarded it on to me - probably based on instructions given by MLF which didn't seem to make it to me.
MLF creates these original sculptures using only materials that he has available to him in his cell in solitary confinement, which he occupies 23 hours a day. These materials include mulched paper, scraps, twist ties and whatever else he has around him, including hand-made pigments alongside traditional paints.
Despite his years of isolation, I find that his subject matter converges with the aesthetics and ideas of the designer toy scene. MLF has also been featured in Juxtapoz - issue 50, I believe. Each piece is totally unique and signed.
